Answer: Our format is unique and brings competitive juice every time. Each 9 holes is split into three 3-hole matches against the other two-some in your tee time. The first 3 hole match is Best Ball. After the 3 holes whichever team has the best score, gains 1 point for the season. Next 3 holes are played in Alternative shot. These 3 holes are played in match play so the team that wins 2/3 holes, gains 1 point for the season. The last 3 holes are played in scramble format, again in match play. So any team that wins 2/3 holes, earns 1 point for the season. Points are accumulated throughout the season until we have a regular season champ. It's essentially everything great about the Ryder Cup squeezed into 9 holes. Each 3 holes you can mentally reset even if you had a rough patch as a team. The worst is when you are 14 holes into a tournament and you know, today isn't the day. That's not the case with Duo Golf.
Additionally, we modified rules of play. 1) No penalty strokes. Why do we want to feel penalizes for playing the game we love? So, if you hit it out of bounds, just take a lateral drop and play on. This keeps the game moving along. 2) Preferred lies. We all want to hit a hightlight reel shot everytime, so let's give ourselves the best chance. All shots can be dropped no more than two clubs lengths away from where the ball came to rest, but no closer to the hole.
Finally, we have the Duo-Over. This game play advantage allows the team you are competing against on the round to force you to rehit one of your shots during the round. For example, if you stick on approach shot to within 3 feet for a birdie putt, they could play their Duo-Over and force you to rehit it. Don't worry, your team can do the same to them. Each team only has one Duo-Over per round. Use it or lose it, but use it wisely.
